I'm joining my neighbors to urge you to keep our water local and vote against legislation that would allow private companies to purchase our public water systems. We are asking you to vote in favor of local service, fair rates and transparency. Here's why we support local utility districts:
Tennessee American Water is a for-profit company that is owned by stakeholders, not customers
On average, private companies charge 59% more for water service, according to Food & Water Watch
Local utilities are not-for-profit and operate solely for customer benefit
Local utilities offer face-to-face interaction and customer service that a national corporation cannot provide
Private takeover signals loss of input from government and customers
